This negotiation face-off between Steve Jobs(then Pixar CEO) and Andy Grove(then Intel CEO) is a masterclass in
1. Business Negotiation.
2. Radical Candor(Care personally + Challenge directly).
3. Building friendships in business.
4. Being vocally self-critical when you are wrong.
5. Concise business writing.
I initially thought Steve was greedy here. But then I looked up the timing. 🤯
This was before the toy story 1 success and the Pixar IPO in Nov 1995.
Steve was betting the farm on Toy Story 1.
And was probably trying to extend the Pixar runway with this negotiation.
Respect for both Andy and Steve.
So many powerful lessons packed into this..
